The Problem of the Criterion
The Problem of the Criterion involves two key issues: first, how do we decide what counts as good evidence or reliable information? second, once we have that standard, how do we determine if something meets that standard? It's a challenge because our judgment about what is good evidence influences how we evaluate things, but choosing our standards also depends on our existing beliefs or knowledge. Essentially, it’s a cycle—how do we know what to trust, and how do we decide what trustworthiness looks like? This dilemma impacts critical thinking and decision-making processes.
