The Pretender (James Francis Edward Stuart)

James Francis Edward Stuart, known as "The Pretender," was the son of King James II of England and Ireland. After his father was overthrown in the Glorious Revolution (1688), James Francis claimed the throne, asserting his right as the legitimate heir. His supporters, called Jacobites, sought to restore his claim, leading to uprisings in Britain and abroad during the early 18th century. Despite his efforts, he was never recognized as king and spent much of his life in exile, making several attempts to reclaim the throne, but ultimately failing to do so.
