The Phonovision

The Phonovision was an early system developed in the 1920s that recorded television images onto a standard audio recording medium, like a vinyl record. It used special technology to convert the visual data into audio signals, which could be played back and then reconstructed into images. This innovative approach allowed for the preservation and playback of television broadcasts before video tapes existed. Although not widely adopted, Phonovision demonstrated the potential for cross-format recording and influenced future developments in television recording and preservation techniques.
