The Peasants' War
The Peasants' War (1524–1525) was a widespread uprising in German-speaking regions, driven by peasants' dissatisfaction with harsh social, economic, and religious conditions under feudal rule. Inspired by the Reformation’s call for spiritual and social change, peasants demanded better rights, fairer taxes, and an end to oppressive practices. The revolt gained momentum but was ultimately suppressed by the nobility and military forces, resulting in significant violence and loss of life. It highlighted the tensions between social classes during the Reformation era and underscored the peasants’ struggle for justice and social change.
