The Ottawa Treaty

The Ottawa Treaty, also known as the Mine Ban Treaty, is an international agreement adopted in 1997 that aims to eliminate anti-personnel landmines worldwide. It encourages countries to stop manufacturing, use, and stockpiling these mines, and to work towards clearing existing minefields. The treaty seeks to protect civilians from the hidden dangers of mines, which can cause injury or death long after conflicts end. Countries that join commit to disarmament and assistance to victims. As of now, most nations are signatories, working together to make war zones safer and prevent future suffering caused by landmines.
