The Orphan Train Heritage Society of America

The Orphan Train Heritage Society of America is an organization dedicated to preserving the history of the Orphan Train Movement, which took place from the 1850s to the 1920s. During this time, thousands of orphaned or abandoned children were placed on trains and sent from Eastern cities to rural communities across the United States for adoption. The Society works to educate the public about this chapter of American history, offers resources for those connected to the movement, and promotes awareness of the experiences of those children and their descendants through research, events, and community engagement.
