The Orange Book

The Orange Book, officially known as the "Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria," is a U.S. government standard from the 1980s that classifies computer security. It provides a framework to evaluate the security features of computer systems, focusing on how well they protect information from unauthorized access. Systems are rated at different levels, ranging from minimal security to highly secure, to help organizations select appropriate technologies for safeguarding sensitive data. The Orange Book helped establish foundational security principles but has mostly been replaced by more modern standards today.
