The Oklahoma Land Rush
The Oklahoma Land Rush was a historic event in 1889 when the U.S. government opened approximately 2 million acres of land for settlement, known as the Oklahoma Territory. Thousands of settlers, called "Boomers," eagerly raced to claim parcels of land on foot, horseback, or in wagons, often arriving unexpectedly. The event marked the rapid westward expansion and settlement of Native American land after treaties and government policies. It played a significant role in American history, contributing to the development of Oklahoma and transforming it into a state through this influx of settlers.
