The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is an international agreement aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. Established in 1968, it has three main goals: to prevent the emergence of new nuclear states, promote peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and pursue global disarmament. Countries that already have nuclear weapons, known as nuclear-armed states, commit to working towards disarmament, while non-nuclear states agree not to develop or acquire them.
