The Nez Perce

The Nez Perce are a Native American tribe originally from the Pacific Northwest, known for their skilled horse culture and deep spiritual traditions. In the 19th century, US government policies forced them onto reservations, leading to conflicts. In 1877, led by Chief Joseph, they attempted to escape forcibly relocated to a reservation in Montana, migrating over 1,000 miles across challenging terrain. Although they ultimately surrendered with the hope of peace, their story symbolizes resistance and the struggle for Native American rights and sovereignty. Today, the Nez Perce continue to preserve their heritage and maintain a strong cultural identity.
