The New Synthesis
The Modern Synthesis, also called the New Synthesis, is a scientific explanation of how evolution works. It combines Darwin’s idea of natural selection—where traits that help survival become more common—with genetics, which explains how traits are inherited. This integration shows that genetic changes in populations over time, driven by natural selection, lead to the evolution of new species. It provides a unified framework, understanding evolution as a process that occurs through small, gradual genetic changes accumulated across generations.
