The Nehru-Liaquat Pact

The Nehru-Liaquat Pact was an agreement signed in 1950 between Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistani Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan to promote peace and protect minority rights in both countries. It aimed to reduce violence and discrimination against religious minorities, especially Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan and Muslims in India. The pact called for mutual respect, fair treatment, and measures to prevent atrocities. It was an effort to improve relations and promote communal harmony amidst rising tensions after independence and partition.
