The National Recreation Trails program
The National Recreation Trails (NRT) program recognizes and supports local and regional trails across the United States that provide outdoor recreation opportunities such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, and interpreting natural beauty. Managed by the U.S. Forest Service and other partners, it aims to promote trail development, stewardship, and awareness. The program grants recognition to exceptional trails, encourages community involvement, and helps secure funding for trail projects, ensuring that diverse outdoor spaces remain accessible, safe, and well-maintained for users of all ages and skill levels.
