The Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a respectful, collaborative conversation technique used to help individuals find their own motivation to change behaviors, such as quitting smoking or improving health. It involves active listening, empathy, and gentle guidance to explore a person’s reasons for change, ambivalence, and goals. Instead of telling someone what to do, the practitioner supports them in resolving their uncertainties and building confidence. This approach fosters intrinsic motivation, making it more likely the individual will commit to positive change because it aligns with their values and desires.
