The Minotaur (mythology)

In Greek mythology, the Minotaur is a creature with the body of a man and the head of a bull. It was born from the union of Pasiphae, Queen of Crete, and a sacred bull, resulting from the curse of King Minos's failure to sacrifice the bull to the gods. The Minotaur was kept in a labyrinth designed by Daedalus—a complex maze—and was kept alive by consuming human sacrifices sent as tribute from Athens. The hero Theseus eventually entered the labyrinth, killed the Minotaur, and escaped, symbolizing triumph over chaos and barbarism.
