The Mellon Arena
The Mellon Arena, also known as the "Igloo," was a historic sports venue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, opened in 1961. It primarily hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL hockey team and was notable for its distinctive, dome-shaped design. Known for its intimate atmosphere, it was one of the oldest arenas in the league before closing in 2010. The arena contributed to Pittsburgh's sports legacy and was a beloved landmark for fans. It was eventually demolished in 2012 to make way for new developments, but it remains an important part of the city’s sports history.
