the Mediterranean Biome

The Mediterranean biome is a unique ecological region characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. It features a variety of plants like drought-resistant shrubs, herbs, and some evergreen trees such as olive and cork. This climate supports diverse wildlife, including many birds, mammals, and insects adapted to dry conditions. Found mainly around the Mediterranean Sea, as well as parts of California, central Chile, South Africa’s Cape, and southwestern Australia, this biome is important for its rich biodiversity and agricultural productivity, especially for crops like grapes, olives, and citrus fruits.
