The Mediator Model
The Mediator Model explains how an independent variable (like a treatment or intervention) affects a dependent variable (an outcome) through an intermediate factor, called the mediator. Essentially, the independent variable influences the mediator, which in turn influences the outcome. This model helps us understand the process or mechanism behind the relationship. For example, a health program (independent variable) may improve fitness (mediator), which then leads to better health outcomes (dependent variable). Identifying mediators helps to understand how or why an effect occurs, guiding more effective interventions.
