The Mediation Effect

The mediation effect refers to a process where a third factor, called a mediator, explains how or why two variables are related. For example, if having more education (independent variable) leads to higher income (dependent variable), and this relationship happens because education increases skills (mediator), then skills mediate the connection. Essentially, the mediator helps us understand the pathway or mechanism through which one thing influences another, providing deeper insight into the relationship.
