The Mallard
The Mallard is a common wild duck known for its distinctive glossy green head, white neck ring, and chestnut-brown breast in males, while females are mottled brown for camouflage. They are highly adaptable, inhabiting lakes, rivers, and wetlands across North America and parts of Europe. Mallards are omnivorous, feeding on aquatic plants, insects, and small fish. They are social birds, often seen in large flocks, and are excellent fliers. Their adaptability and widespread presence make them one of the most recognizable and studied waterfowl species worldwide.
