The Lucayan Group

The Lucayan Group is a geological formation primarily composed of limestone and composed of several sedimentary rock layers. It was formed during the Late Jurassic period, roughly 150 million years ago, in a shallow marine environment. This group is significant because it contains fossils that provide insights into the marine life and Earth's history during that era. Found in parts of the Bahamas and surrounding regions, the Lucayan Group helps geologists understand sedimentation processes, paleoenvironments, and the geological history of the Caribbean area.
