the long jump pit
A long jump pit is a designated area where athletes perform the long jump. It consists of a runway for athletes to sprint before jumping, a takeoff board that marks where they jump from, and a sandpit where they land. The sandpit cushions the landing and makes it easy to measure how far the athlete jumps. The distance is measured from the takeoff board to the closest point of contact in the sandpit. This setup allows for accurate assessment of an athlete’s jumping ability in a safe environment.
