The London Trained Bands
The London Trained Bands were local militia groups formed in 16th and 17th century England, primarily composed of middle and lower-class citizens. Their purpose was to defend the city and surrounding areas during times of conflict or invasion. Members were trained in basic military skills but were not full-time soldiers. Over time, their role evolved, and they became an important part of London's defense structure, especially during events like the English Civil War. Essentially, they were a civic force of citizen-soldiers who could be called upon to protect their community when needed.
