The Lomax family
The Lomax family was a family of ethnomusicologists and collectors of folk music, notably known for their work in recording and preserving traditional American and world music. John A. Lomax and his son Alan Lomax traveled widely, capturing songs, stories, and cultural expressions from diverse communities, especially in the southern United States. Their efforts helped document musical heritage that might have otherwise been lost, influencing music, scholarship, and cultural preservation. Their work is considered foundational in the field of ethnomusicology and has contributed significantly to understanding the cultural roots of various musical traditions.
