The Lincoln Memorial
The Lincoln Memorial is a significant national monument in Washington, D.C., built to honor Abraham Lincoln, the 16th U.S. President. It features a large, classical-style temple with 36 columns, representing the states in the union at Lincoln’s death. Inside, a massive seated sculpture of Lincoln faces west, overlooking the Reflecting Pool toward the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. It serves as a symbol of unity, freedom, and equality, and has been the site of many historic events, including Martin Luther King Jr.’s "I Have a Dream" speech. The memorial is both a tribute to Lincoln’s legacy and a place for reflection on American ideals.
