The Law of Superposition

The Law of Superposition states that in undisturbed layers of sedimentary rock or soil, the oldest layers are at the bottom, and the layers become progressively younger toward the top. This principle helps geologists determine the relative age of rocks and fossils by examining their position within these layers. Essentially, when rocks are layered naturally over time without disturbance, their order reflects chronological sequence, with younger materials deposited on top of older ones.
