The Last Days of Byzantium
The Last Days of Byzantium refers to the final period before the Byzantine Empire's fall in 1453, when Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Turks. Over this time, political instability, military defeats, economic decline, and internal divisions weakened the empire. Despite efforts to revive its strength, the empire’s resources dwindled, and faced with superior Ottoman forces, Byzantium could not withstand the siege. The fall marked the end of a thousand-year-old Christian Byzantine civilization, leading to the rise of the Ottoman Empire and significant shifts in medieval history.
