The Land War
The Land War was a 19th-century protest movement in Ireland, primarily during the 1870s and 1880s, advocating for tenant farmers' rights. Landlords often owned the land and rented it to tenants, who faced high rents, insecurity, and little control over their homes. The movement aimed to reform land laws, empower tenants to buy land, and reduce rent burdens. Led by organizations like the Irish Land League, it combined protests, strikes, and political activism to challenge landlord power, ultimately resulting in legislation that granted tenants more rights and paved the way for land ownership reforms in Ireland.
