The Korean War
The Korean War (1950-1953) was a conflict between North Korea, supported by China and the Soviet Union, and South Korea, backed by the United States and other Western nations. After World War II, Korea was divided along the 38th parallel into two zones. North Korea aimed to unify Korea under its communist government, invading South Korea in 1950. The U.S. and allies intervened to repel the invasion. The war ended in a stalemate with an armistice in 1953, establishing the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), but no formal peace treaty was signed, leaving Korea technically still at war.
