the Kalahari
The Kalahari is a vast semi-arid desert covering parts of Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. Despite its name, it is not a true desert, as it supports diverse plants and wildlife adapted to its dry conditions. The landscape features expansive sandy plains, sparse vegetation, salt pans, and occasional grasslands. It’s home to unique animals like meerkats, gemsbok, and black-maned lions. The Kalahari plays a vital role in regional ecology and contains the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, one of Africa's largest reserves, emphasizing its importance for conservation and indigenous communities.
