The Jacobite
The Jacobites were supporters of James II of England and his descendants, who believed they should remain on the throne after James was deposed in 1688 during the Glorious Revolution. They sought to restore the monarchy to the Stuarts, opposing the ruling monarchs from the House of Oranje and later the House of Hanover. The Jacobite movement led to a series of uprisings and conflicts in Britain and Ireland, particularly in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Their efforts aimed to re-establish a Stuart monarch and preserve what they saw as traditional Catholic and royal rights.
