The Iron Law of Oligarchy

The Iron Law of Oligarchy is a political theory stating that, in any organization or movement, power tends to concentrate in the hands of a small, elite group over time. Despite efforts at democratization, these leaders often gain control because they have the experience, resources, and influence to maintain authority. This creates a hierarchy where decision-making is centralized, making it difficult for ordinary members to influence major choices. Essentially, no matter how democratic an organization starts, a small ruling class often emerges and sustains itself, limiting true member participation or equality.
