The Iron Gate

The Iron Gate is a notable section of the Danube River’s riverbed, located in southeastern Europe, forming part of the natural boundary between Serbia and Romania. It features a narrow, steep-sided gorge through which the river flows rapidly, creating a dramatic and scenic landscape. Historically, this area was difficult to navigate due to the high, rugged rock walls and swift currents, making it a challenging passage for ships. Today, the Iron Gate is also the site of a hydroelectric dam complex, which provides electricity and helps control flooding and navigation along the Danube.
