The Intersex Society of North America (ISNA)
The Intersex Society of North America (ISNA) was an organization founded in 1993 to advocate for the rights and well-being of intersex individuals—people with sex characteristics that do not fit typical definitions of male or female. ISNA aimed to increase awareness, promote human rights, and challenge unnecessary medical interventions often performed on intersex infants. The organization worked to ensure informed consent and support for intersex people to make autonomous decisions about their bodies. Although it closed in 2008, ISNA significantly contributed to greater understanding and acceptance of intersex conditions in society.
