the identity theory of mind

The identity theory of mind suggests that mental states—such as thoughts, feelings, and sensations—are directly linked to physical states in the brain. In other words, each mental experience corresponds to a specific neural process or brain activity. This view treats mind and brain as two ways of describing the same thing: mental phenomena are nothing over and above physical brain processes. So, when you feel pain, it’s actually your brain’s neurons firing in a particular pattern. The theory aims to explain mental experiences through the objective, physical workings of the brain.
