The Humean Theory of Motivation
The Humean Theory of Motivation, developed by philosopher David Hume, suggests that our desires are the primary drivers of our actions. According to this view, reasons for action are rooted in what we value or wish for, and these desires motivate us to act in pursuit of their fulfillment. Essentially, our beliefs (what we think is true) inform our desires (what we want), and it’s the desires that push us to take specific actions. Without desires, beliefs alone wouldn’t motivate behavior; desires are the internal forces that cause us to act.
