The History of Jousting
Jousting is a medieval sport dating back to the 11th century, where knights in armor on horseback aimed to knock each other off with lances. Originally part of military training, it evolved into a competitive spectacle at tournaments to showcase skill, bravery, and chivalry. During the 12th to 15th centuries, jousting gained popularity across Europe, especially in England and France. The event involved strict rules, elaborate armor, and was often accompanied by festivities. Although it declined with the end of the medieval era, reenactments and tournaments today preserve its historical significance and celebrate knightly culture.
