The Helsinki Commission
The Helsinki Commission, officially known as the Helsinki Commission or HELCOM, is an organization established in 1974 to protect the marine environment of the Baltic Sea. It brings together countries bordering the Baltic (like Sweden, Finland, Russia, and others) to collaborate on pollution control, habitat preservation, and sustainable use of marine resources. By promoting cooperation, sharing information, and setting environmental standards, HELCOM aims to reduce environmental damage and ensure the Baltic Sea remains healthy for people, wildlife, and future generations.
