The Help America Vote Act
The Help America Vote Act (HAVA), enacted in 2002, was designed to improve the voting process and address issues from the 2000 presidential election. It provides federal funding to upgrade voting systems, ensures voters with disabilities have better access, improves voter registration processes, and establishes standards for voting equipment. HAVA also created the Election Assistance Commission to assist states in implementing these reforms. Its goal is to make elections more accessible, reliable, and trustworthy for all voters.
