The Habsburgs
The Habsburgs were a powerful European royal family that played a significant role from the late Middle Ages to the early 20th century. Originating in what is now Switzerland, they expanded their influence through strategic marriages, notably ruling Austria, Spain, and parts of the Holy Roman Empire. Their empire was diverse, encompassing various cultures and regions. The Habsburgs are known for their role in major historical events, including the Reformation and the Thirty Years' War. They ended with the abdication of Emperor Charles I in 1918, marking the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire after World War I.
