The Green River Killer

The Green River Killer, whose real name is Gary Ridgway, was a convicted serial killer responsible for murdering at least 71 women in Washington State during the 1980s and 1990s. He targetted vulnerable women, often involved in prostitution or drug addiction, and would pick them up, then murder and dispose of their bodies in the Green River and surrounding areas. Ridgway’s ability to evade detection for years was partly due to the transient nature of his victims and limited forensic technology at the time. He was finally captured in 2001 through DNA evidence, leading to a life sentence without parole.
