The Greek War of Independence
The Greek War of Independence (1821–1832) was a conflict where Greek revolutionaries fought to gain freedom from the Ottoman Empire, which had controlled Greece for centuries. Inspired by ideas of national sovereignty and Enlightenment principles, Greeks sought to establish their own nation. The struggle involved military battles, diplomatic efforts, and support from European allies who admired Greece’s ancient heritage and saw the fight as part of a broader cause for national self-determination. The war ended with Greece establishing an independent state, marking the beginning of modern Greek sovereignty.
