The Great Synagogue (Budapest)
The Great Synagogue in Budapest, also known as Dohány Street Synagogue, is the largest synagogue in Hungary and one of the most prominent Jewish landmarks in Europe. Built between 1854 and 1859, it features a stunning blend of Moorish Revival and Byzantine architectural styles, including a prominent green dome, intricate decoration, and a large prayer hall. It serves as a religious, cultural, and historical center for Budapest’s Jewish community. The synagogue also houses the Jewish Museum, memorials for Holocaust victims, and a cemetery, symbolizing both spiritual life and remembrance.
