The Great Lighthouse of Alexandria
The Great Lighthouse of Alexandria, also known as the Pharos of Alexandria, was an ancient marvel built on the island of Pharos in Egypt around 280 BC. Standing about 100 meters tall, it served as a guide for sailors navigating the busy harbor of Alexandria, one of the world's most important ports at the time. The lighthouse used a fire at its summit to create a bright light, often enhanced by polished bronze mirrors. It was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World but was eventually destroyed by earthquakes. Its legacy endures as a symbol of engineering and maritime navigation.
