The Great City of Tenochtitlan

The Great City of Tenochtitlan was the capital of the Aztec Empire, located on an island in Lake Texcoco in what is now Mexico City. Built around a central plaza, it featured impressive temples, canals, causeways, and marketplaces, showcasing advanced engineering and urban planning. The city was a hub of political, religious, and trade activity, home to a large population. Its innovative use of aqueducts for fresh water and floating gardens called chinampas for agriculture demonstrated Aztec ingenuity. Tenochtitlan was a vibrant and powerful imperial center until conquered by the Spanish in 1521.
