The Ghost Army (World War II deception unit)
The Ghost Army was a secret U.S. military deception unit during World War II, composed of artists, actors, and sound engineers. Their mission was to create realistic illusions of troop movements and installations to mislead the enemy about the location and strength of Allied forces. They used inflatable tanks, dummy equipment, loudspeaker sound effects, and visual illusions to simulate large military formations. Operating covertly in Europe, their efforts helped divert enemy attention and protect actual troop advances, ultimately contributing to the success of military campaigns while remaining largely unknown until decades later.
