The GDR railway systems

The Deutsche Reichsbahn (GDR railway system) was the state-owned railway network in East Germany, primarily used for passenger and freight transport. It consisted of extensive rail lines connecting cities and industrial areas, facilitating economic activity and mobility within the country and to neighboring regions. Managed centrally, the system aimed for efficiency and reliability, often reflecting the technological standards of the era. After German reunification in 1990, the GDR rail infrastructure was integrated into the reunited country's railway system, modernizing and expanding services to better serve the region.
