The Gates (Christo and Jeanne-Claude)

The Gates, created by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 2005, was an art installation in Central Park, New York City. They installed 7,503 large, orange fabric panels called "gates" along 23 miles of paths, with flowing fabric hanging from each. The project transformed the park into a vibrant, immersive experience, inviting visitors to walk through and view the landscape differently. Known for their temporary and environmentally conscious works, the artists used natural materials and planned the installation to be disassembled afterward, emphasizing the transient beauty of art and nature’s coexistence.
