The gastrointestinal tract
The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is the series of connected organs responsible for digestion and nutrient absorption. It starts at the mouth, where food is chewed and swallowed, then moves through the esophagus to the stomach, where food is broken down further. From there, it travels to the small intestine, where most nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream. Waste then moves into the large intestine, which absorbs water and forms stool. The process concludes at the rectum and anus, where waste is expelled. The GI tract works continuously to break down food, absorb nutrients, and eliminate waste efficiently.
