The gamma decay

Gamma decay is a process in which an unstable atomic nucleus releases excess energy by emitting a high-energy photon called a gamma ray. Unlike alpha or beta decay, gamma decay does not change the number of protons or neutrons in the nucleus; instead, it helps the nucleus move from a higher energy state to a lower one, stabilizing it. This emission typically occurs after other types of decay and is a way for the nucleus to rid itself of energy without altering its atomic identity. Gamma rays are highly penetrating and used in medical imaging and cancer treatments.
